Our travel tip: Aachen

Experience and discover Aachen

What is so special about Aachen? The first thing that comes to mind is, of course, its special location in the border triangle. Aachen borders Belgium and the Netherlands. But you don't necessarily have to cross the border, because there is plenty to discover in Aachen too.

The beautiful old town invites you to stroll and linger. On your way, you will also pass the famous Aachen Cathedral. Did you know that the cathedral was Germany's first UNESCO World Heritage Site? Be sure to go inside the cathedral. The view upwards into the vaulted ceiling illustrates the strict geometric concept that runs through the entire cathedral.

Would you like a little refreshment after your visit to the cathedral? We recommend Aachener Printen. And no, a Printe cannot be compared to a gingerbread or honey cake. But why not try the flavour for yourself? Printen are also a great souvenir.

Charlemagne was a great fan of Aachen. Aachen was his residence during the winter months. Charlemagne is said to have stayed here in winter mainly because of the hot springs, as he is said to have suffered from rheumatism.
