Cycling talents spend the night in youth hostels in the Rhineland

The Vermarc Cycling Team is a very special project in German cycling: a national league team for U19 riders that unites young talents from all over the country. Unlike usual, the athletes do not compete for their home club, but as part of a team that specifically prepares them for a career in professional sport - with a lot of passion, structure and international prospects.

Founded for the next generation of female cyclists

All those responsible and supporters of the Vermarc Cycling Team have a common goal: they want to support young female cyclists and pave the way for them into international racing - regardless of financial hurdles.

After all, cycling is cost-intensive: high-quality racing bikes, protective equipment, entry fees, training camps and, above all, travelling expenses to races in Germany, Belgium or the Netherlands - four-figure monthly amounts can quickly add up. This is a real challenge for many families.

Support from the youth hostels in the Rhineland

The youth hostels in the Rhineland offer the Vermarc Cycling Team the ideal conditions for the start of the race weekend. When the team meets up for competitions in western Germany or in neighbouring countries, the young athletes stay overnight in our hostels - inexpensive, uncomplicated and team-friendly. This was also the case at the end of March, when the team stopped off at the Cologne-Deutz Youth Hostel before travelling on to the opening race in Oostrozebeke, Belgium.

Start of the 2025 season: strong performance at the race in Belgium

In sunny spring weather, more than 100 riders from eight nations competed in Oostrozebeke - including seven riders from the Vermarc Cycling Team: Caoilinn, Lena, Jette, Pia, Hannah, Franzi and Marie.

For some, the pace, the large field of riders and the aggressive riding style in Belgium were new territory. Due to the high race pace, no group was able to break away decisively and around 40 riders had to finish the race prematurely.

However, the Vermarc Cycling Team remained in the race as a whole. In the final bunch sprint, Caoilinn was well positioned by the newly formed sprint train, but lost crucial metres due to a wave before the last bend - and ended up in a strong 11th place. Particularly pleasing: the two youngsters Franzi and Marie celebrated a successful U19 debut.

Conclusion: form, team spirit and perspective are right

The first race of the 2025 season whets the appetite for more: team spirit, fitness and motivation are just right - the Vermarc Cycling Team is ready for anything that comes its way.
