The 2024 Paralympics start today in Paris. By 8 September 2024, around 4,400 athletes from over 180 nations will be competing against each other in 22 sports in Paris. These include established disciplines such as wheelchair basketball and para-swimming, as well as new sports such as para-badminton and para-taekwondo. The youth hostels in the Rhineland are cheering on the athletes - not only because exciting competitions and top sporting performances can be expected, but also because the games help to break down barriers and celebrate diversity.

The DJH Rhineland Regional Association is committed to ensuring that travelling to our hostels is possible for as many people as possible. That's why many youth hostels in the Rhineland have accessible rooms, bistros, dining rooms and sanitary facilities. Two hostels - the youth hostels Monschau-Hargard and Nideggen - are even certified with the nationwide standardised „Travel for all“ seal.

North Rhine-Westphalia's only barrier-free treetop walk is located in the Waldbröl Youth Hostel's „Panarbora“ nature adventure park. Over a length of 1,635 metres, it leads along a circular route with seven platforms and passes through several areas of forest vegetation before ending in the observation tower. From here you have a unique panoramic view over the Bergisches Land region. The paths in the park itself were repaved and made barrier-free at the beginning of the year. The youth hostel also has two barrier-free rooms with plenty of space. Further information

Our extras for people with disabilities
