Today is saxophone day

Today is International Saxophone Day. Why today of all days, you ask? We'll explain it to you:

The inventor of the saxophone, the Belgian instrument maker Adolphe Sax,
was born on 6 November 1814.

Sax was born as one of eleven children in Dinant, Belgium. Antoine Joseph Sax - his real name - moved with his family to Brussels in 1935, where his father opened an instrument-making workshop. Antoine studied the flute, clarinet, singing and harmony in Brussels. He also began making instruments in his father's workshop. In March 1846, he was granted a patent for his invention of the soprano saxophone. In total, he made a complete family of saxophones in eight different sizes and pitches.

Today, it is impossible to imagine the world of music without the saxophone. The saxophone plays a particularly prominent role in jazz music. There is hardly a jazz ensemble that does without the saxophone as a characteristic solo instrument. Quite rightly, the woodwind instrument with its multi-faceted sound deserves its own day.
