On Tuffi's trail through Wuppertal

Do you actually know Tuffi? The elephant lady, who travelled on the Wuppertal suspension railway in 1950, panicked and then jumped into the Wupper, is still a real star in Wuppertal more than 70 years later. With luck, she was unharmed apart from a few scratches. Families can now explore the green city in the footsteps of the legendary elephant with the new offer from Wuppertal Youth Hostel - a combined ticket for the suspension railway and the zoo is already included.

Wuppertal Youth Hostel welcomes guests again

For almost two years, Wuppertal Youth Hostel housed children from a Ukrainian children's home and their carers who had fled to Germany as a result of the war. From now on, guests can once again book the youth hostel for overnight accommodation - the hostel will be welcoming guests again from the beginning of May. The offer „On Tuffi's trail through Wuppertal“ can be booked for families from the summer holidays and includes the following services:

  • 2 nights in a family room (each family has its own shared room with washbasin) Breakfast, bed linen
  • Combination ticket for a ride on the suspension railway and admission to Wuppertal Green Zoo
  • One pack of Zookekse biscuits per family

Float through Wuppertal once in a lifetime

A ride on the famous Wuppertal suspension railway is a must on any city trip to Wuppertal. After all, the suspension railway, which was inaugurated in 1901, is the city's landmark and an important tourist attraction. The „Green Zoo“, as Wuppertal Zoo is known, is one of the most beautiful zoos in Germany. Situated on a hillside, the zoo is characterised by wide meadows, large ponds and an old stock of trees. It is the only zoo to be included in the European Garden Network and is home to monkeys, elephants, birds and penguins, cats of prey, elephants and reptiles.

Further highlights for families

In addition to the suspension railway and the zoo, Wuppertal has a lot more to offer families. For example, the city can be wonderfully explored by bike in good weather. The Northern railway line, a former railway line, connects Vohwinkel and Wichlinghausen over a distance of almost 13 kilometres and, like the Samba route also suitable for smaller children. In bad weather, families who like to be active in sports will find the following in Wuppertal one of the largest indoor climbing centres in North Rhine-Westphalia. Brand new is the Suspended bodrom, which only opened in October 2023. You can immerse yourself in the history of the suspension railway at three stations. The highlight for children is definitely the VR tour, which takes you on a virtual journey back in time to 1929.

Even more offers for families

In addition to the weekend package „In Tuffi's footsteps through Wuppertal“, families in Wuppertal can also visit the 3 and 5-day family break book. You can book 2 or 4 nights including breakfast for a maximum of two adults and a maximum of 3 children up to the age of 17 for just 229 euros or 459 euros. During the NRW holidays, Wuppertal Youth Hostel also offers the „Special offer 3-for-2“, where you get the third night in a family room for free.
