72-hour campaign at Xanten Youth Hostel

3 days, 80,000 participants throughout Germany and lots of social projects: These are the results of this year's 72-hour campaign organised by the Federation of German Catholic Youth (BDKJ). The project, which is all about working together for and with others, took place last weekend for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic. Xanten Youth Hostel was delighted to welcome 60 hard-working helpers who had set themselves the goal of beautifying the outdoor area of the youth hostel.

From Thursday evening to Sunday afternoon, the participants - the altar servers from St Viktor's Cathedral, the Xanten Girl Scouts and the Xanten Scout Tribe - were active in the youth hostel. „The atmosphere was great,“ said a delighted Konstantina Tsanis, head of the youth hostel at Xantener Südsee. Despite the mixed weather, the young participants were highly motivated to „make the world a little bit better“. This was already clear at the opening service, during which the scout hymn „Nimble Hands, Nimble Feet“ was sung. The various activities started on Friday: Boards with group game instructions were labelled, set up and of course tested, pieces for Viking chess were built, the barbecue hut was cleaned and the herb snail was planted and given a new lease of life. The hungry helpers were catered for in the youth hostel. There was also a campfire on Saturday evening to bake bread together. A barbecue was organised to say goodbye on Sunday afternoon.

In just three days, the groups got a lot done and spruced up the outdoor area of the youth hostel for spring. Not only the youth hostel team, but also the participants were very satisfied with the result at the end of the campaign.
