NEW: The sports park in Schleiden
The town of Schleiden has had one more attraction since mid-March - and it's completely free. Schleiden Sports Park offers many different play and sports facilities and is therefore suitable for all age groups.
For daredevils, fitness cracks and lap runners
The new sports park has been built in recent months on the site of the old sports ground at Wiesengrund. Even though not all of the work has been completed, the sports park was officially opened on 24 March 2024. From now on, residents and guests of the city can let off steam, try things out and hone their skills on the site. In addition to a soccer field, a basketball court and a 400-metre running track, you can expect fitness equipment, a table tennis table and, for those who like it quieter, a boules court. Sounds like a normal sports ground?
Not at all: there is also a dirt track with steep bends and rapid descents that will make every mountain biker's heart beat faster, two trampolines, climbing cubes, a slackline and ninja warrior equipment. Fall protection mats at certain points ensure that no serious injuries occur. Those who prefer to just watch the action can sit on one of the benches. A giant parasol is set up in the centre of the park.
Not all facilities can yet be used without restrictions. However, this is set to change in the coming weeks. There are also plans to remodel the neighbouring sports hall. A toilet facility with a toilet for people with disabilities and a nappy-changing table is to be installed there by the end of the year.
