Future Meeting Space: Why we attend events

Since 2015, the Fraunhofer IAO and the German Convention Bureau, together with partners in the innovation network Future Meeting Space, how conferences and events are developing. In the current study „Redefining Event Attendance“ shows that face-to-face events remain important - but the reasons for attending have changed.

Why live events are indispensable

Today, people consciously attend events. They are looking for a change from everyday office life, want to socialise, network, gather inspiration and take away new ideas.

What makes the difference

An online programme is often sufficient for the pure transfer of knowledge. But when it comes to experiences, dialogue and authenticity, face-to-face events are the way to go. Venues that suit the topic and offer a tangible added value experience are particularly in demand.

Make more conscious decisions

The decision for or against participation is more considered today than in the past: climate impact, travel expenses, size and group of people play an important role - especially when you have to provide good reasons to superiors.
