Xanten Youth Hostel wins Fair Trade Cup
A strong signal for sustainability: the Xanten Youth Hostel was honoured with the Xanten Fair Trade Challenge Cup. Mayor Thomas Görtz ceremoniously presented the trophy in recognition of the company's special commitment to fair trade and global justice.
The award comes in the middle of Fair Week 2025, in which Xanten Youth Hostel is participating under the motto „Fair travelling. Fair living. Fair living.“ with a variety of activities:
-
Fair breakfast with fair trade coffee, cocoa, spreads and snacks
-
Fair coffee break for the team - A thank you with attitude
-
Fair bedtime snacks for guests
-
Fair surprises for birthday children celebrating in the youth hostel during the Fair Week
The youth hostel also offers fair lemonades, sweets and even footballs. In this way, small steps in everyday life become visible contributions to a fairer world.
House manager Konstantina Tsanis is delighted with the recognition:
„We are proud of this award and take the challenge cup as an incentive to further expand our commitment. Sustainability starts on a small scale - and we want to show our guests how much joy fair decisions can bring to everyday life.“
For us as youth hostels in the Rhineland, this award is also great proof of the extent to which our hostels practise sustainability in everyday life. It shows: A lot can be achieved together with many small ideas.
