Art upside down

Have you ever been to the Sports Youth Hostel Duisburg-Sportpark? The modern hostel was opened in 2013 in the immediate vicinity of a regatta course, a lido, an ice rink and the Schauinsland Arena, where MSV Duisburg plays its home games. But it's not just the surroundings that make the youth hostel ideal accommodation for sports groups and clubs, the hostel itself is also fully geared towards sporty guests: It has its own sports hall, a fitness room, a sauna, a small pitch with artificial turf and two beach volleyball courts.

In keeping with the facilities and location, you will find a „sporting work of art“ in the entrance area of the youth hostel: A football pitch hangs upside down from the ceiling. This is an installation by sculptor Rita Kanne. The special thing about it is that it changes with every step you take. You can approach the pitch from floor to floor and, depending on your perspective, the pitch changes, leaving your thoughts „upside down“ for a moment as you look at it.
